"One day this child may grow up to be someone's husband or father and his family will be celebrating him."
It was the evening of my husband's birthday, January 24. During his party, I received a call from a woman who had been referred to me by a friend at one of our partner churches.
She was very upset because she just discovered that she was pregnant and her boyfriend was pressuring her to have an abortion. She was crying because he told her that he wanted to have children with her - just not yet. She told him "no, no, no"; however, he would not let up on the pressure. He had scheduled a doctor's appointment for the next morning so she could take the abortion pill. It would be easy and, at 9 weeks, "it wasn't a baby yet anyway".
We talked about fetal development, her rights and feelings, her support system and Hope House. I prayed for her and asked her to complete an application online for residency. I gave her my cell phone number so that she could call me anytime.
I was hundreds of miles away and couldn't just hop in the car and rescue her. I had to depend on God to help me give her hope in the midst of a hard situation. Outside my bedroom door, my family was laughing and having a great time celebrating my husband's life and inside I was fighting for the life of a child.
One day this child may grow up to be someone's husband or father and his family will be celebrating him. Because, you see, Paw did eventually end up completing our resident application and tomorrow, February 12, the young lady I spoke to will be moving in to Hope House.
Praise Jesus! Your support provides a love-filled home, an ultrasound, a way to earn and save money all while being introduced to the Gospel. Please add Paw and her baby to your prayer list- they're one of ours now!
